Under Pressure
It's been quite some time since I last posted, but we've actually had a flurry of activity over the past month. I'll play catch-up later, but right now I'm excited to share our latest nearly-completed project.
It was almost two months ago when I introduced the playroom as our next project.
It was supposed to be an "easy" job. Famous last words...
Actually, it wasn't particularly difficult, but it took us forever to get it together. The only reason it's now mostly done now is because we gave ourselves an external deadline. Carpet is being installed TOMORROW (!!). After the painting languished for weeks, we finally called to have the carpet installed, thereby giving ourselves a deadline. It was either that or stress about getting paint on the brand new carpet.
So, for the past two weeks we have been pushing ourselves to get this done. This was made even more difficult with M out of town for four days last week.
One of the big challenges we faced was some lovely plastic baseboard that was adhered to the wall with the strongest glue ever created.
Seriously, this glue was crazy. In the picture above, you can see how it pulled the drywall right off with it. Awesome. When I saw this happening, I had nightmares of patching the paneling in the Man Cave. Shudder.
I put on my brave face and went ahead with patching the walls. With my trusty trowel and bucket of joint compound, I covered those holes as best I could.
Here is M doing his part to scrape off that awful glue so I could patch the walls and make them not look so bumpy.
It's not romantic, but this is how we spent several evenings while the kids were asleep. Hey, at least it gave us a chance to talk, something that is not easy when you have two active kids running around!
Looking at these pictures now, I realize I nearly forgot to mention M's work pulling out the old carpet in the room.
We rented a dumpster several weeks ago (more on that in another post), and M yanked out the carpet, followed by all of the tacks that held it down. That's not easy work, folks!
I don't want to reveal the whole room yet, but I will show you how awesome the room looked with the old, mint-green sponge paint gone.
Here's a close-up of the sponge-paint:
Here;s the room with just primer:
Gone is the '80's sponge-paint! It looked so much better just with the clean, white primer. Someone spent a lot of time doing that paint job, but I feel a little guilty getting rid of it. OK, that's a total lie - I was happy to see it go!
Cross your fingers that the carpet goes down quickly and easily tomorrow. I can't wait to post pictures of the final product!
