Playroom Reveal

I think of all the rooms we have renovated so far, I am most excited about this one.  Not because it came out better than any of the other rooms, but because I'm excited to have the kids start to enjoy it.

This is also the first room for which we had someone else do the work.  In this case it was carpeting.  After much discussion, we decided to go with carpeting for the playroom.  I was worried about stains and spills, but at the end of the day we wanted to create a warm, inviting space for the kids where they can get down on the floor and really play.  While we love the laminate wood floor in the office and Man Cave, it just didn't seem a good choice for the playroom.  I'm so glad we went with carpet - today was freezing cold, and now that the carpets are in place the room feels physically warmer.  I won't worry about the kids' comfort when they're down here playing.

To recap, here's what we started with:

It wasn't the worst room ever, but we weren't a fan of the mint green sponge-paint walls.  Plus, the walls were looking a little dingy.  The rug was on the newer side, but we questioned how clean it was, even after we had it steam cleaned.  I just wanted to get it out of there and start fresh, especially with the kids playing on it.

So, here's what we had at the beginning of this past weekend, prior to our mad painting spree:

Freshly primed walls, and carpet gone.

If you may recall, we actually call this room the "Green Room" for obvious reasons.  When we were deciding on new paint colors, Little Lady requested that we keep it green.  I thought that would be fine, and went on the search for a green that was bright and fun for a playroom.

Ready for this?!

Welcome to the new Green Room!

If this green color doesn't scream "bright," "cheery," and "playroom," then I don't know what does!  We chose Tree Fern by Behr.  The color looks a little darker in person, not as pastel as it appears in the pictures.

The carpet is light brown with some flecks of darker brown and cream.  It was hard to get a close-up, but here goes:

The picture above makes the walls look fluorescent, which they are not.  I think it was just the way the sunlight was hitting them.

The carpet is not an exact match to the laminate flooring that we have in the other rooms, but it is close enough that it feels like we have consistency between the rooms.  We chose the multi-tone color because we thought it would hide stains better than a single color.  Plus, the flecks of color give it some depth.

And how do the kids like the room, you ask?  They absolutely love it!  The time between dinner and bedtime is often a challenging time for us, but not tonight!  They got right down to business, literally running around the room.

Even M got in on the action!

Don't worry, she's not hurt.  She was just taking a rest after running what must have been the equivalent of a mile.

We still have to paint the closet door, replace the covers to the baseboard heater, and paint the outlet and switch covers.  Still, we're just happy that the kids finally have a dedicated space to run and yell, especially now that the weather is getting colder.

M and I have vowed that this is the last project we will tackle before the New Year.  (I have one more tiny painting job I want to squeeze in before Christmas, though.  Don't tell M!)
