You Win Some, You Lose Some
I was looking forward to the install finally happening today, just as the weather is starting to turn colder around these parts. I have been craving some homemade pumpkin muffins, and had planned to take the new oven for a new spin this afternoon.
The bad news comes during the install, when the dude discovers that the previous owners had hard-wired the oven into the wall! There is a single hole in the Sheetrock, where this giant, original, 1965 wire comes out of the wall. It had been stripped and split, and then stuck directly into the back of the oven.
As with most of my initial reactions, I freaked out. The guy assured me that it is not a fire hazard, and not really dangerous. It did, however, prevent him from installing the new oven. That's the bad news. Instead, we need an electrician to come re-wire the wall and install a junction box. Then, they can come back and install the oven. What's one more week without an oven, right?
Anyone want to make me some pumpkin muffins? Pretty please?
So, we now have this awesome hole in the cabinets...
... and a beautiful new oven sitting in the living room.
Sigh. I keep saying this, but someday, really, this house will be nice.
The good news has nothing to do with the oven, but is about the Man Cave. Yesterday I finally bit the bullet and started the flooring. The first step was to lay out the panels to see how they would fit. In the office we needed to cut the first row so that we wouldn't end up with a sliver of flooring when we reached the other end of the room.
Would you believe that in the Man Cave it fits perfectly from one end of the room to the other?
I hear a choir of angels! Seriously, this might be the first "win" we've had since starting this renovation. I'm still craving pumpkin muffins, but will take a small victory when I can.
