Ready For Some Football?
Football is a pretty big deal at our house. Little Lady knows that Sunday afternoons are dedicated to watching the game. After the end of last season she was confused as to why the TV wasn't on for the game - she had gotten so used to watching football on Sundays!
Alas, the Man Cave isn't quite ready for today's season opener. All we need is the flooring. Oh, and a couch. Oh, yeah, a new TV would help, too. M has been scouting out a new TV and we both have a pretty good idea of what we want for furniture, but we don't want to pull the trigger on either until we get the flooring done.
We finally finished up the painting, which took a lot longer than it really should have. We had aimed to have the entire room done by the end of August, but life has kind of gotten in the way.
I wanted to wait and show pictures of the room when it was completely done, flooring and all, but that might be a while...
To recap, here's what we started with:
And here it is with the walls prepped to remove the paneling, brick cleaned, and some fresh, clean paint:
I couldn't have gotten rid of that ugly brown trim without the help of my new best friend, Kilz. This stuff rocks. I used their Premium Primer on both the trim and the walls. I probably could have gotten away with one coat of Kilz on the trim, but I decided to play it safe and do two coats. After that, I followed it up with two coats of white interior semigloss paint. That's four layers of paint on the trim. Yikes. Still, that was two coats less than I used in the office! I hadn't discovered Kilz when I did the office, so it took a ton of primer and paint to cover up the brown.
On the walls I also decided to use a coat of Kilz, just to even out where I had used the joint compound. Also, the bottom of the walls still had a few inches of brown paneling peeking out. After that, it was two coats of Benjamin Moore Kahlua and Cream. We chose the color because it is a warm neutral that we thought would go well with both the brick and the flooring. Plus, the name of the color couldn't be any better, unless it were something like "Sam Adams" or "Guinness"!
I'm really happy with the way the room has turned out so far. Just need to get that flooring in there and we can finally be done. I'd start on the flooring today, but we have some football to watch. Go Pats!
